I've been mailed so many questions about Jack Russells that I decided to create a Jack Russell FAQs page so people can find answers quickly and easily.

But this will be an interactive page too where questions that are not featured here can be posted by visitors.

AND if any of you have answers to any of the questions listed here, you can post them as well!

So any Jack experts out there have an opportunity to share their wisdom with owners looking for help to questions they may not have been able to find anywhere else.

JRT FAQs - My Most Frequently Asked Questions

Question: When does a Jack Russell stop growing?

Answer: Around a year to a year and a half old.

Question: When to get your puppy fixed?

Answer: It used to be vets waited until pups were over 6 months old. Now many vets are fixing dogs as early as 8-12 weeks old. Ask what your vet's policy is.

Question: How to stop a JRT from barking?

Answer: Oh my gracious, this is a hard one because Jacks are so territorial and take great pleasure in sounding the alarm. If you have accomplished adherence to basic commands in your Jack, he will respond to your command to be still and quiet. If you need help attaining this basic training I recommend Dove Cresswell's Online Course. Jacks love to bark and can be very unmanageable in this area of training. But some basic training can bring about a Jack that will obey quite well when they understand what you want and that you mean business.

Question: Is a Jack Russell good with children?

Answer: I have a whole page dedicated to this question because it cannot be answered in a simple yes or no. Read more here.

Question: What's a JRT suppose to look like?

Answer: The breed standard is covered nicely on this page.

Question: Why do Jack Russells hop when they walk?

Answer: It can mean a dislocated kneecap which causes a three-legged hop for a step or two known as patella luxation. It is more common in shorties. You might want to have the vet check it out if your Jack is doing this little hop.

Question: What TV show was the JRT named Eddy on?

Answer: The wildly popular TV sitcom "Frasier". My Hollywood page can tell you more about famous Jacks.

Question: What is the lifespan of a Jack Russell?

Answer: 13 to 18 years.

Question: What is the dog breed in the movie "Mask"?

Answer: You guessed it... the Jack Russell Terrier who was absolutely perfect for the role!

Question: Can anything be done about Jack Russell Terriers who have prick ears?

Answer: I'm afraid not. And none have so large of prick ears as does my Annie! But it has only made me love her more.
