jack russell hoarse bark

Hi, My jack is 10 yrs. he is a very stubborn dog, but he's mine so I can't give him up. anyway my question is, in the past two weeks his bark has changed from a normal bark to a raspy bark, almost like he has a sore throat, he is eating and drinking and still being him self. his temp is good, I am worried that someone could have poisoned him, or do they get hoarse, in the 9 years ive had him he has never lost his bark. any ideas? thanks
