leaks urine when excited

My Jack Russell bitch is about a year old. She's lived with us since she was about 8 weeks old & seems very happy & loving. When she sees us first thing in the morning or even if I've been out of the room for a bit, she leaks urine while she's jumping round excitedly. Is there anything we can do about it?

Excited Pee

We had the same problem with our JRT, and still do when visitors arrive that haven't been forwarned. A trainer told me to do the following: When you or a visitor first enter the house, ignore the dog for the first 5 - 10 minutes until he/she has time to calm down. No petting, eye contact, or speaking to the dog until the time has lapsed. Usually, once your dog has time to get over the initial excitement they will have gained control over their bladder.
It really does work. It takes a little planning, especially where visitors are concerned. They need to be informed ahead of time because JRT's demand attention...from EVERYBODY, and giving it to them is such a natural instinct. As you have experienced, that is when the leaking starts. Hope this helps.
