Female jack russell has started attacking male jack russell

Our 7 year old female jack russell has suddenly started attacking our male jack russell. The female is 7 and the male almost 11. They have always gotten along for years. We don't know what triggered this or what to do.

I read from someone else's post that sometimes a younger dog will start being domineering towards older dogs as a way of asserting themselves. She must be sensing some sort of weakness in the older dog, or senses that he is getting older. However, at 11, he still has quite a few good years in him, but it may be time for her to really start asserting herself as top dog. I would say that as long as she's not hurting him, you should just stay out of it. Unless you really know what you're doing, it's best to stay out of these issues. The dogs usually figure it out.
