HELP W BITING!

by sad

Help! I live with my grandmother. My jrt is 8 years old. Within the past year he has been very territorial of me. If my grandma walks past my room he growls at her and occasionally tries to bite her. If she tries to hit him it only makes it worse. He has bitten her a few times. When he does we make him sleep or go in the dog crate. Should I make him sleep in this every night? I love my dog, but I just don't know what to do with him right now.

thanks

Thank you for your input. She only tries to hit him when he is jumping up on her and showing his teeth. (She is afarid when he does that and just wants him to go away!) I don't know what it is with her. She spends the most time with him and feeds him and gives him treats. She has never hurt him. (She actually hand feeds him when he's being picky and won't eat!) We will try your ideas. Hopefully they will work!

Never raise a hand
by: Anonymous

First of all if anyone is trying to hit him, you are showing aggressive behavour so your dog will retaliate,so please don't let anyone raise a hand to your dog it is the worse thing you can do.

PLEASE DO NOT HIT THE JRT, PLEASE!
by: ScooterMama59

Hello,
I hope I can help you with this problem. First, GrandMa should not act like or hit your dog. This will only make things worst. Secondly, you need to do a few things to get this under control. Get a small spray waterbottle or a child's spray toy and fill with water. When your JRT growls and acts nasty to GrandMa, give him a little spay on his head or paws (NEVER the FACE) and tell him in a firm voice: NO, Be nice to GrandMa!
Another thing to do would be to buy a small string-like muzzel to put on his mouth area when he is ONLY around GrandMa. He'll get the message quickly that he has to wear this if he's going to bite or growl at your GrandMa.
I would crate him EVERY night until this behavior changes or keep him locked in your room away from GrandMa. JRT's never forget who hits or hurts them!
GOD bless and let me know how things go.
P.S. It will take patience and a couple of weeks doing this over and over, but WORKS!
