Why is my Jack russell losing his fur so badly?

Hi i am wondering if you can help me our jack Russell terrier is malting ( sorry for spelling) So badly we are having to hoover 3/4 times a day.

Is this normal and is there anything that we can do so he doesn't lose it as bad?
