Whatever he is, he is my dog.
by: Sue

My little, Jack, named 'Mod' which means 'ant' has got prick ears since he was about 4 months old. I used to feel sorry for him and for myself too after realizing that it is going to be permanent, but who cares? After all he is so cute and playful. Once we took him to an animal hospital in town, unable to identify the breed, a guard called him 'the dog with hare ears'.

It Happens...
by: Lisa, toronto, ON

My little guy has prick ear and I wondered the same thing. It turns out it is hereditary. It is something that you may not see in their parents but maybe their grandparents have it. My little guys ears started to raise when he was around 12 weeks. Here is the best thing about prick ear that normal JRT's have to worry about. Ear infections. Any dog with prick ear has a very unlikly chance of getting an ear infection because there is no where for the dirt to hide. On the other hand they are not recognized as a Jack Russell terrier. Which means they can't be show dogs. But who wants a show dog anyway....

Prick Ears Origin
by: Pics & Tics

I believe it is the genetic influence of the bull terrier.
