Reader Question: Is It Normal For Jack Russell's To Get Brown Spots On Their Skin?

My Jack Russell keeps getting more and more brown spots all over. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

Veterinarian Answers Reader Question Regarding Jack Russell Developing Brown Spots

Hi,

I would need some more information from you before I could make a reasonable guess as to what the brown spots on your Jack Russell might be. If the skin and/or fur that is involved looks to be perfectly normal in all other regards, they are probably nothing to worry about. Some Jack Russell’s, especially young ones, do develop more spots as time goes on.

If however, the spots you describe involve the skin and the areas are raised, irritated, or otherwise appear abnormal (in other words, not the normal patches of pigment that many Jack Russell’s and other dogs have in their skin), you should definitely make an appointment with your veterinarian.

Regards,

Jennifer Coates, DVM
