Jack Maltese

I have a Jack-Maltese mix. When I conducted research on both dogs, I have found that his behaviors are a perfect mix of the two. His hair is also a mix. Some areas are rough coat Jack Russell and others are silky Maltese. I am not sure if I should keep his hair short or let it grow long if it would. What do you think?

OMG NEW
by: Anonymous

Our dog Jack (Jack Malt mix) is the best dog I have ever had!!!!!! He is so sweet, loyal, kind, patient, loving and smart. We adopted him 3 months ago at the age of 3. We just got back from a months vacation, and he was the perfect little passenger and adjusted to everything so well. I just love him to death. I would recommend this cross very highly. I am very blessed to have him in my life.

Jack Maltese Wanted NEW
by: Lorraine

I have raised three kids and four Jack Russells. My children have moved away - London, Nashvile and New Orleans. My Jacks have passed away - the last one died over the summer and my heart was broken. I still miss Lego but I think I am ready to get a new dog. At least I am alsmost ready to talk about it without crying.

I have fallen in love with the Jack Maltese mix. I am in Atlanta - where can I find one?

Thanks,

Jack x Maltese
by: Anonymous

We bought our Jack X Maltese at 6 weeks of age and she is now approaching 6 months. She is a beautiful and playful puppy who is very patient with children. She loves to have her ball thrown for her, but is still learning to bring it back. She learned to sit and shake hands very easily. The Jack X is an intelligent and wonderful dog and I would recommend the breed to anyone!

The best friend ever
by: Anonymous

I have had my Jack/Maltese for 1 year. I bought him when he was 5 and he has turned out to be the most playful yet gentle and the most loyal, loving and obedient dog I have ever had. Highly recommend him for small children and elderly.

Jack-Malt Roxy
by: Sandy

Roxy is a Jack/Maltese cross. She shares our home with our Jack, Kenny. She is definitely the better behaved dog. She is patient yet stands her ground. She sheds a lot so we shave her in the summer, but her winter coat serves her well in our Canadian Winter: she would always rather be outside than in. She behaves more like a cat than a dog, is very independent, and not as attention-seeking as Kenny. She doesn't understand the game of fetch at all, although Kenny goes absolutely nuts for it. She is more of a hearding-dog, and chases people or animals when they run. She also has a way better hunting sense than Kenny and can always find a bug or rodent, has not problem diving into the water to go after it. She is very sweet, and never complains about anything, great dog!

Best dog we have ever had
by: Anonymous

Our little Jack Russell / Maltese died last Friday, his name was Titch. He had liver disease (unknown cause). Titch was 10 years old, as a pup he was easily trained, very intelligent, and playful. He would pick up his lead and bring it to me to go for a walk. Titch is greatly missed by our whole family, we miss the way he comforted members of the family if they were sad.

He just seemed to know when someone needed his love.

Figaro
by: Joyce Y

We had a Jack Russell Maltese and he was wonderful. He loved to give kisses, lots of them. He died in my arms last week at the age of 8. We think he might have had a brain Tumor. He was always lively, and ready to go for a car ride, He would get the whole place excited when you picked up your keys. If we were going to be gone for a while, I would tell him to go and get some Safari food, and he would eat a couple of mouths full of dry dog food. We have 2 other dogs, that are sad at loosing Figaro, they are a Manchester terrier Daschund mix, and a Chinese Crested Powderpuff, that was a rescue dog. We miss our Figgy very very much. I recommend the breed to anyone that wants a loveable friendly pooch.

Length of hair
by: Spike

We have started keeping our Jack/Maltese short. He seems to like it better and loves the attention he gets when we groom him. Seems to be less shedding as we don't notice as much hair on our clothes (not to mention he feels like a chenille pillow when petting him!!)

Lady - Jack Tese
by: Attie (Somerset West, South Africa)

I have a 4 year old desexed female Jack x Maltese. Very cleaver, loyal, bossy and brave. Shares the home with medium sized neutered male Staffy x Schipperke (Willem), and spayed female Yorkie x pom x . Very alert. She has managed to train our family perfectly to her taste. Still loves to chew things and loves to lick: us as well as visitors. She is hands down my favourite.

Jack-Tese?!
by: Spike

We own a 7 year old Jack Maltese mix. He is the best dog we have ever owned. Since Ed sheds we try to keep his coat cut short. We do this by hand since he has more of a wirey wispy hair coat instead of fur. He has personality plus, weighs about 13 lbs and is absolutely spoiled rotten. Loves to ride in the car. Thinks he should sit with one paw on the steering wheel and lean on the door. Nothing gets by him. Probably the funniest thing about Ed is that he watches television. If any animal appears on the screen he runs up and barks ferociously at the images. Sometimes he looks behind the television to see where they went. Ed has lots of energy but he is more of a laid back little guy. Loves to lay on the back of the sofa and watch everything that goes on outside.

Jack Maltese puppies for sale
by: Natalie

My pure-bred Maltese has recently given birth to 4 puppies, and, what a surprise, they look like their father pure-bred Jack Russel terrier, but have longer, fluffy hair. I would like to sell three of them. Any ideas?

About the Jack/Maltese Mix
by: Laurie Ann Powell

I have a split coat Jack Russell Terrier, and he sheds and looks pretty scraggly when I let his hair grow out. Maltese are not supposed to shed, but Jacks do. What I would do is definitely cut its hair if it looks bad. If you groom it everyday, and like the longer look, than leave it long. It does depend on someone's preference. With summer coming, your dog would probably thank you if you keep its hair short. I shave mine in the hotter months. I can see a definite attitude change in our dog Chase, after cutting his hair. I shave it myself. You can find the equipment very reasonable. Good Luck! And yes, we would love to see a picture of the dog. I have never seen a Jack/Maltese mix. Interesting mix.
