Behavior Change Before Dog First Heat

by Anne Athanasiou

My 5 1/2 month Jack Russell Terrier is behaving differently today in the park. She is biting grass, rolling about, sniffing. Totally ignoring me when I call her.

Is she about to come into season? She is about to be spayed next month.

6 months is the time when most Jacks go into first heat, so makes sense. Being playful is one of the signals used by female dogs to signal that she is sexually ready.

Anyone else experience something similar just before estrus (female dog heat).
