to shave or not to shave?

is is ok to shave jrt's?

ours is a broken haired and is coat is wild!!
we live in west Texas and leave him outside with the husky during the day while were gone at work,
at night we like to bring him inside, but he gets so dirty it seems like were always bathing him.
we have tossed around the idea of shaving him? is it a bad idea to do so? and why?
