Suddenly Attacking my other dog

I have had my jack Russel for 6 months now. We got him when he was 5 months old. I have had a chihuahua/terrier mix for 2 years now. These 2 dogs have been really good buddy's for a long time now. Total over 3 months my jack Russel has probably tried to attack my other dog like 4 times. But in the last 3 days he has attacked him numerously!! One day its was 3 times, yesterday it was 4 times and today so far it has been 11 times. I have made sure to show equal attention and everything. The fight is absolutely over nothing. Toby (jack Russel) will just wake up or walk by, look at Tigg (chihuahua/terrier) and go for his neck. Its very scary. I have disciplined him, and put him in a different room for up to 30 min before to let him know that its not tolerated. He will kill my other dog if I were to let it go. Toby is getting fixed next Monday. I really hope it will fix this but what if it doesn't. I don't want to get rid of him, he has a great personality! But 11 times a day is scary, and if I"m not here to stop it, he will kill my other dog!! Is this normal, or how should I go about it?? Please help me?

sincerely
melanie allen

Jack Russell Bites NEW
by: Anonymous

I recently got a JR from someone who did not give him ant attention. For the first dew weeks I di not have any problems but as she started ferling "more at home" she started attacking my dachund(spelling). So I remembered someone telling me they give their dog melatonin. It calms them down but does not change their overall personality. I am trying this noe and it's only been 4 days so I don't see any changes yet but I will continue bc it may take several weeks. I thought I would put it out there in case any one would like to try this method.

THEIR VICIOUS EVEN TO EACH OTHER NEW
by: Sue

I wouldn't trust a Jack Russell as far as I can see them. My neighbor has two and they both attacked my little dog that is a yorkie, cairn terrier that looks like Benji. My dog was on a leash and their dogs took off from their yard and came into my yard. I picked my little dog up to protect him after one of them bit his ear and they tried to attack me. When the owner tried to get one of them it tried to bite her. I've heard them on their porch attacking each other. I have a little granddaughter and today I had it. I called the police and made a complaint. If they don't get a fence I will. Problem is I know that the owners know they are vicious.

Put him down!!! NEW
by: Anonymous

Have you done your research on Jacks? A resent study in Australia shows 25% of all dog attacks on children under 4 years of age are committes by them. As a breed their purpose is to hunt anything small and kill it. They were never intended to be a pet, they are ratters by nature and selective breeding and are hardwired to attack and kill. Once they start you cannot stop this behavior since for the past 2 centuries the non killing puppies have been kulled from litters to produce maniacal rat killing machines. Now because they are so 'cute' people with no training or expertise have invited them into their homes as family pets. What did you expect when you brought this four legged pshycopath into your home. Have him put down before there is a mauling or death of some small child

Jack Russell Attack
by: Chris Allen

I have a 4 year old Jack Russell that I've owned since he was 7 weeks old. He was raised around other dogs, taken to obedience training, and just all around loved and socialized. At about 6 months of age however he turned very aggress toward other animals. I had him neutered immediatly but it didn't seem to make any difference. He grew up playing with a cat as well but one day the cat ran and at that instant became prey. He get's along with a few dogs he was raised around but no others. I've tried methods outlined by trainers to curb aggression but nothing has worked. He's very unpredictable. Never have a chance to reward him for good behavior (when non agressive) becuase I can't take the chance in letting him near other animals. He had asserted his dominance; a dominance he'll likely either retain or be killed in defending it. I have no solution to your Jack's troubles, I've accepted mine as the bane of my existance. Oh yes, some advice, beware of those whom have a simplistic answer to correct such behavior, I've tried specialized training and methods suggested by two different trainers claiming to have a solution: FAIL! And the old "it's all in how you raise them...", that's just someone a little too far on the nurture side of the nature/nurture debate. His instinct has won out over his socialization.

11 times?
by: Anonymous

Are the dogs neutered or spade, do you walk them as a pack? If you haven't watched Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer, maybe you could do that or look on his website? My JRT plays with other dogs and has no problems. Is the dog getting plenty of exercise?
Good Luck!
