Peeing

We have a 5 year old JRT that is for the most part a very good dog. He's always been really good at going to the bathroom outside- he has a doggie door so he has complete freedom. Recently we found that he started peeing on our couches- out of nowhere. Even weirder is when we rubbed his nose in it he just started growling. He usually has a very guilty conscience about being naughty- except sometimes when he does stuff out of anger. He's never been allowed to get on the couches he peed on- could that be the reason? Is there anyway to fix this odd behavior?

Seems like he wants some attention! Maybe take him for a walk every day? Usually, they mark when they walk and they don't wet inside. When he "goes" outside, he needs some praise.

Punishment will not help...Positive reinforcement is the way to train a dog!
