My JRT'S Don't Eat Much. Why?

by Ashley

I have two JRT'S one is a 3 month old puppy and one that is a one year old mother of the puppy. I just got them a couple days ago. Ever since I have had them I bought three different types of dog food thinking that they don't like it. I have tried to feed them out of my hand. still doesn't eat it. I mean I have them eat when I am in bed.

Do they just not eat that much?

If you can help me or give me any answers email me at Loashl3@q.com

inside Play Ideas

-Do your dogs like playing tug? It's especially fun on the carpet. Our trainer said it's actually good for the dogs to play tug as long as you win most of time (or always). This works all their muscles.

-I also give my dogs a raw marrow bone or other soup bone with some meat still on it to chew on when the weather is bad. You might want to confine them to the kitchen or some other easy to clean area with a washable towel to lay on while they chew. Never give your dog a cooked bone, of course, but the raw ones are great and really work up an appetite. It takes a lot of work to chew on the soup bone. My dogs especially LOVE (!!!!!) the sliced beef knuckle bones because it has cartilage (good for joint health) and lots of spongy bone that they can safely eat off the solid part of the bone. This provides a natural source of calcium, the kind they would get in the wild.

I hope this helps. I have a JRT that doesn't like to eat. The best thing for her appetite is for her to go outside for a walk and poop but in your situation you might want to try the above also.

I Can't Walk My Dogs Right Now.
by: Anonymous

The reason I can t walk my dogs is because I have a foot of snow outside and it is too cold for them to be in it. So how do I exercise them when they cant walk?

Eating Habits?
by: Anonymous

My Jack eats so much, sometimes it frightens me! He has a habit of eating everything he sees! Maybe they need a long walk before feeding time? I walk my JRT about an hour in the early morning and then feed him. He gobbles everything so fast, I have been feeding him chicken and green beans with kibble that has added broth. I put the chicken and green beans in the food processor, too. He ate so fast at first, that he would throw up all the food right after eating it! Most of them have great appetites. Maybe it has something to do with the Mom still being with the puppy?
