My jack russell jack isn't eating

by Anna

Hi, I am a bit concerned with my dog Jack. He used to eat very well, we feed him royal canin, we then switched him over to another good quality food that was less expensive. He did well on that food for a few weeks then back to not eating much. We have him on royal canin again. He's 5 months old and on a good day he'll get 3/4 cup of food and a bad day 1/3 to 2/3. We have given him a lick or bite of our food and decided that we weren't going to do that anymore. I'm worried, my husbands not! He's playful and active, sleeps but not overly excessive amounts during the day. Is our problem the table food and how long till he gets back on his food.

Thanks,

Anna

Jack Russell eating again
by: Marion

We also feed our 9 mo old Royal Canine food. She, too, stopped eating. Our vet told us not to worry as it was exceptionally hot for the last two days. We turned on our air conditioning (gently) and kept her in for a few hours. After that she ate as normal once again. Marion

THANK YOU AND I'M GLAD HE IS BETTER!
by: ScooterMama

Hello,
Just what I thought. Holding out for "other" food. Straight up dog food is always your best choice.
They can live without the extra treats, just play with him with his favorite toy and that will make him a lot happier than any treat.

Thanks for the update and the best to you both!

doing good
by: Anonymous

I've not given him anything other than his puppy food, he's doing much better, thank God! I've had different responses as far as giving him anything other than his own food. I think I will stick to that, it seems to be working.

HE'S HOLDING OUT FOR THE TABLE FOOD...
by: ScooterMama

Hello,

You are right. He is holding out for the table scraps, but given time he will eat his food. I would suggest mixing boiled carrots, boiled potatoes, fresh boiled green beans in his bowl with his current food. Do not use anything but water and the veggie. No spices!
Make sure it's slighly warm and NOT HOT!

I cook up the boiled food on Sundays and feed them to the poochies during the week. They love it!

He'll love it and it will help him to eat better and he will be healthier too!
I have seen JRT's hold out for days for the table food. No more of that OKAY!?

The best to you and your poochie in Canada,
Shabbat Shalom,
