The Great Houdini

The Great Houdini

Hi, my name is Wayne. I live in South Africa. My Jack Russell is about 4 years old. She is a genuine Jack and keeps on escaping from our house. I have closed everything up, but she still escapes. We have 6 foot walls all around our house and she's smart enough to always finds a way out. We have moved away from a previous house where she also always used to get out, and now every time she gets out she returns to the old house, which is about 4 miles away. She has really has me baffled. I have even installed a surveillance camera and tempted her with her toy and her leash and made as if I was leaving with out her, but she then doesn't escape. So I can't see where it is she is getting out. I have seen her climb trees, and gates. But my Little Zoe gets out when ever I'm not around to see. I have heard that one must try to smear butter on your cat's paws if they keep on returning to their old house. Does this also work with dogs? Is there any advise you can give me? I really Love my little Zoe and don't want to see her get hit by a car while running way.

Zoe Was Busted!
by: Wayne

I Eventually Busted Zoe!

I set up a video camera at various locations and finally caught her out.

Zoe climbs up a tree about as thick as my arm,and as high as about 6 or 7 feet, and then jumps over the back wall of our house...

But wait...thats not all, she then jumps onto a chicken box of the house behind us and then onto a 6-7 foot brick wall and then jumps into their neighbors back yard...

After discovering her whereabouts, I saw that she had found a boyfriend Jack Russel and a Bull Terrier friend, all playing and having fun. A month later I saw Zoe was really getting a bit overweight, and realized that she was actually pregnant. Well what can I say...

Houdini Jacks are just like cats in trees.

Houdini Solution?
by: Charlene and Mike (Mee-kah)

The only thing that I can really think of (which may or may not be popular with you) is to put your Jack in a crate or some kind of a chicken wire cage with a top!!!! Jacks are very good at climbing, and I'm unsure of the butter thing, but it could work, I suppose...But I think that the only sure-fire way to keep your Jack at home is in bondage, unfortunately.
