Excessive Dog Hair Shedding and Shaving

by Paula

My daughter’s dog, a Jack Russell Terrier, needs to be re-homed. We cannot have the excessive hairs in our home business, but adore her very much in every other way.

Is it cruel to have the dog shaved to help with this?

Veterinarian Suggestion on Excessive Dog Hair Shedding

Hello Paula,

Shaving your dog is not the answer to this situation. Regular brushing, appointments with a professional groomer, and even dietary supplements (e.g., omega-3 fatty acids) can go a long way toward reducing the amount of hair your dog sheds without the emotional trauma associated with repeated full body shaves.

Hair around the house is a fact of life when you own most breeds of dogs. If this is not a manageable situation, perhaps it would be best if you were to find her a new home.

Jennifer Coates, DVM

Classic example of buying a dog without doing the appropriate research in to their behaviours and lifestyles! PLEASE RESEARCH before you buy these precious lives! They're not just gifts you can exchange! Sorry just being honest! :/
