Dog Hiding Things

Reader Question: Do Jack Russell’s Like To Hide Things?

Do all Jack Russell’s like to store biscuits and other treats in hiding places to eat at a later date? This is a game our 2 month old puppy seems to enjoy, and so does our 3 year old Boxer who watches and waits.

Vet’s Input On Jack Russell’s Hiding Behavior

Hi,

Jack Russell’s are terriers (or as some like to call them, “terrors”) and because of their ancestry hunting – in this case for treats – does come naturally. I can’t say that every Jack Russell hides their food, but I’m not surprised to hear that yours does. I once had a Lhasa Apso (definitely not a terrier) who did the same thing, so I’d say this behavior falls under the category of normal for some individuals, regardless of their breed.

Enjoy your pup!
