if the dog is going to be outside alot its a very good idea to get fences put up! Having said that I have 2 jack (1 male and 1 female) and I only have a 2 foot wall separating my garden from the neighbours and a fairly busy road, and my 2 have never (touch wood) tried to get over it and come when they are called, they also get sort of anxious if I am out of sight and my little boy panics as well, but they ARE indoor dogs that are taken on a un twice aday for 1 hour each time, so they are fairly well behaved indoors! and also my brother has a jack for a hunting and when he take his dogs to a field once aweek my 2 enjoy training (they are not used for live bait hunting they just chase a "rabbit skin" with his. I also take mine to work with me BUT I remeber when I was really ill and my sister took them out from me and they slipped the collar or chewed throught the lead and run!
I personally dont think my 2 bark alot but people who visit tell me they are a bit noisey as the slightest noise starts them off!
they ARE very very energetic, as I said mine have a fair bit of exercise and they are still like live wire in the house and if I am not too tired or can manage to fit another walk or run into the day they wont turn it down!
If you arent home alot or cant take them to work dont get this dog! mine are high in demand for everything attention, eercise, food, ect ect. I love mine to bits but they are very high demand! and do suffer from seperation anxiety if I leave them for longer than 2 hours alone, resulting in destruction! They are great dogs, though full of character and endless energy and laughs! I love bouncy dogs (im used to border collies) and couldnt imagine EVER having a quiet dog. they are great bundles of fun and happy little dogs if they are brought up properly!
