I've been at this table for ages, when's my dinner going to get here?

My JRS has a swollen vagina. She is 12 months old and still very puppyish. Could she be preparing for heat? On another note, what is the best age to mate her?

Thak you Maggie for your comment. We've been very concerned about Cleo's swollen state and are still concerned since it has beeen almost 3 weeks now and she does seem a little too swollen. She doesn't appear to be in any pain or discomfort but does tend to lick the area a lot.

It is definately a sign that she is on heat. The 1st heat cycle can start as early as 9 months of age. Seeing that she is a year already, there is almost no doubt. It is best to not breed her on her 1st and even 2nd heat cycle. She will be far more mature if you wait till the 3rd or more.
