Allergies

What is the best way to treat a JRT allergies. I feel terrible that her face and paws are so red and itchy. The vet always wants to give her a shot or prednisone, but I would like a more holistic way to care for her.

Allergies? Not any more! NEW
by: tom Watson

Skooch and Kutter haven't shown any signs of allergies since I changed them over to authority dry dog food and Roll-Over dog food rolls(made in canada),,, it's like a huge sausage of beef or chicken or pork, although I only feed them the beef ones.
Lol
They love it...it's not too wet and you can slice off 3/4 inch pieces twice a day and give each 1/2 of the 3/4 inch piece... They love it! I also give dried chicken strips for treats, or when they do tricks... Skooch will say " I love you" , "I want some" for chicken( unless she's distracted)
Kutter used to freak when I leave home or when people came around and he would poop on the floor and pee on the floor all the time...,,, since getting him on a better, non allergenic food he's calmer doesn't pop at all in the house and only pees inside if he stays in for a long time... Life got so much easier! Foods have a drastic effect on these dogs!

Jack Russell Allergies
by: Tom Skooch & Kutter

Skooch and Kutter both have had allergies of different kinds;

I used to take skooch everywhere with me. when I first got her she would chew and lick her paws to the point of bleeding. it took a while, but I finally figured out that letting her walk on groomed lawns(city grass) was causing her to chew her paws.... I think they were putting some kind of herbicide or fertilizer on the lawns that were irritating her feet. I stopped letting her walk in these areas, finding less polluted places for her to go and the problem has stopped. I think dog parks put less stuff on the gras and unkept tall grassy areas as well.

when we first got Kutter he would turn bright pink and act really bad...biting and peeing and being irritating to Skooch. Even his fur seemed to turn pink...eeek! It seemed to happen right after he ate and was worse with certain foods. I emailed Lois at Salashan (this was the breeder of Kutter) and found out what kind of food they use in the kennel and started getting that kind for Skooch and Kutter (authority from petsmart) and another expensive brand made locally ...(wild something or other)
Anyway he dose't turn pink nearly as much anymore, and he has been much better behaved.

Amazingly....my jack has same problems and I hate to have her get shots as well.

I stopped getting her shots, changed food like 3 times and she kept getting worse. She was so miserable.

I can only speak for myself...yes it may be bad not to mention expensive BUT I just took my jack back to the vet and got an allergy shot. I feel so bad now because she is like a new dog! She has done nothing but sleep and lay on her back and is not barking and being aggressive. To put it blankly...she feels so much better. I will probably continue to do this until something else helps. I keep her on flea rx and heart rx as well and I have to tell you that is very important for a dog with allergies. Fleas will drive them crazy.

I hope this helps. I just know I want my dog to feel good and be happy and if it means shots, then that's what I will do. She is 9 years old and she is very healthy, so I guess it's okay!

Good luck to your jack and give it kisses for me.
