Feeding Pork to Your Jack Russell is a Big No!

by Kim

I have a 4 year old Parsons Jack Russell Terrier named "Madison". She is the love of my life. I wanted to share this story with you to let others know.

I gave her a piece of Pork from leftover dinner and the next morning her entire body swelled out and she just fell over. I almost killed her!! I rushed her to the emergency vet and she couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. I took her home and gradually she got better. I can't tell you how that day was for me. I eventually realized it was the pork that had that reaction. I will never give her pork again. Thankfully she is doing much better now. It would have been like loosing a child to me. I never knew pork had that effect on dogs. Stay clear of Pork!

Pork a BIG no no for real NEW
by: Anonymous

I have a one year old jack and he is allergic to pork as well. We have to keep Histal at home just for him. The vet recommended it. We also realized he can not eat any processed food what so ever.

Pork bones
by: Anonymous

Never give your dog pork bones!! These will splinter and can be extremely harmful to your pet. I am still researching the effect of pork products on dogs and will post anything that will give a definite answer, for all to read.

Re: Jacks & pork
by: Christine

I've had Roxy for 3 1/2 years & before that I had Tigger (both Jack Russells). Tigger had other health issues & we had to put him down at 2 1/2 - very sad. Roxy has always had our pork chop bones & scraps of pork meat from our roasts. It has never affected her in any bad way except that she wants more! Any meat should be okay for dogs if fed in moderation & cooked or raw. Never feed partially cooked meat as it can cause very severe problems due to bacteria. Dogs need a balanced diet containing meat & vegies & grains. In the wild, dogs will eat grasses etc if there is no other food available - all it does is give them white pooh. My dogs have always been fed table scraps, raw meat (beef, pork, lamb, venison, kangaroo) cooked meat & casseroles made of leftovers, rice & pasta. I've always had happy, healthy dogs with bright eyes, shiny coats, good skin & healthy gums & teeth - only get bad breath from too much meat! Kim, maybe your Jack is allergic to pork??

How well I know!!
by: Pics & Tics

We nearly lost our Jimbo to pork chop bones. He had swallowed them whole before we knew it. Scared us to death. Surgery followed and we have never fed pork to our dogs since.

Thank goodness Madison is ok.
