Biting Other People

My Baby Bubba

My Jack Russell's name is Bubba and he just turned 2 in January. He has bitten at least 4-5 people since we have had him. He recently bit my moms friend on the back of the knee. It is random people that he bites, mostly strangers. I don't know what to do about the biting. It has come to the point where I can't take him anywhere or let anyone in the house because he will bite them. I brought him to training but it didn't work. He barks all the time at other people and dogs and I'm at the point where I cry. I dont know what to do. Does anyone know what to do?

Just Bite Him Back

I think you should bite them back. They will then know what you feel and stop it. I know it sounds completely out of wack and crazy, but it worked with my Black and Tan Coonhound, Baby. Even though she play bit instead of really really bit, it still worked and she hasn't even play bit anyone in a while. You should try it!!!

Hi, Sounds like you have your hands full with Bubba. It could be a number of things, I'll mention a few. It sounds like it could be a possessive thing over you. Do you feed, walk and sleep with Bubba? If so, you may need to change that and give Bubba his own bed in the main part of the house or even on the floor of your room, have someone else in the house feed him and take him outside. It also could be he is insecure. This sounds counterproductive, but I would take him out for more walks, increase his exercise 10x what he is getting now. add a pack on his back with filled water bottles on each side, Make him work some of this energy off and give him a job by carrying these things. It will boost his self esteem. he needs to be tired out more often. Obedience classes would help also. Just make sure you find someone that understands Jacks. Don't go to someone that uses harsh treatment to 'break him down" then build him up. that does not work with these dogs, any dogs for that matter. Make him work for his food, twice per day. He must sit for someone to give him a kibble at a time till he has finished his meal hand fed.
Hope some of these suggestions help. Remember above all, he is a jack russell terrier, aka dog. You and your family must be consistent in training and do not treat him like a child, baby. he has an active mind and high energy, If you work both of these things I'm sure you will see results.
